Water Tank, Level Control and Motorized Valve Project

We design the filling-discharging pipes, motorized valve, level sensor, alarm contacts and control scenario for domestic and process water tanks together. We describe the control system according to the operational continuity and safety needs of the facility.

Technical Calculation and Project

Design principles for Water Tank and Level Automation

Warehouse volume alone is not sufficient design input. Input flow rate, usage demand, level ranges, valve opening-closing delays and overflow measures are evaluated separately in the control logic.

01 / WATER STORAGE

Warehouse volume and reserve

Volume and usable water levels are considered by evaluating the usage scenario, filling capacity and operating reserve.

02 / WATER STORAGE

Level measurement system

Magnetic level indicator, floater, conductivity probe or continuous level sensor is determined according to the process conditions.

03 / WATER STORAGE

Motorized valve control

Level relay, ON/OFF valve, manual on-off, AUTO–0–MANUAL switch and on/off feedback are designed.

04 / WATER STORAGE

Safety and alarm

Safe status is evaluated in case of lower level, upper level, high-high alarm, overflow line and power outage.

Engineering Process

Discovery, calculation, project and field control

Design assumptions are clarified by evaluating each facility's intended use, existing infrastructure and equipment conditions separately.

01

Storage and well data

Tank elevations, inlet/outlet diameters, supply pressure and field cabling are examined.

02

Control scenario

Set points that open and close the valve, level difference and alarm logic are defined.

03

P&I and equipment

Valve, float, control panel, cable, protection and manual intervention diagrams are prepared.

04

Testing and commissioning

LOW, HIGH, HIGH-HIGH and manual/automatic operating scenarios are included in the test plan.

Project Preliminary Information

The data we need in technical evaluation

  • Warehouse geometry, height, entrance-exit elevations
  • Flow rate and pressure from the well or network
  • Available level indicator and contact types
  • Valve diameter, electrical supply and control voltage
  • Overflow, drainage and critical consumption point information

Missing information and scope of discovery can be determined at the first meeting.

Safety and Standards

Critical conditions of the project

If the level control is to be done based on the actual liquid level in the tank, not the pressure, the physical size measured by the sensor and its calibration must be verified. The safe position of the valve in case of power failure and independent overflow protection are also defined.

Relevant legislation, applicable TS/TS EN standards, employer technical specifications and manufacturer instructions are checked according to the project type. Application and testing processes must be carried out in accordance with the authorization/license conditions.

Technical Question

Can the motorized valve be opened and closed manually when it is automatic?

It can be planned with the appropriate actuator's manual mechanism and AUTO–0–MANUAL control scheme; Safety locks for manual use are defined on a project-specific basis.

Detailed Technical Coverage

Water Storage and Automation Subsystems

Each subsystem is evaluated with separate calculation and equipment criteria in the project; are combined into a single engineering solution suitable for operating conditions.

01 / SUBSYSTEM

Water tank volume and reserve calculation

Consumption profile, inlet flow rate, operating reserve, usable water level and specially reserved fire water reserve, if any, are calculated.

02 / SUBSYSTEM

Warehouse feeding and filling line

DN/PN pipes and connections, inlet pressure, valve type, motorized butterfly valve, check valve and manual isolation for maintenance purposes are examined.

03 / SUBSYSTEM

Magnetic level indicator and floater

Continuous measurement, level switch, LOW-HIGH-HIGH/HIGH contacts and high level alarm are placed according to the tank.

04 / SUBSYSTEM

AUTO–0–MANUAL level control

24 VDC supply, control relay, on-off button, on-off signal lamp and manual operation of the actuator are entered into the control scheme.

05 / SUBSYSTEM

Overflow and low water protection

Overflow pipe, filling cut-off scenario, dry running protection, safe position in case of power failure and fault alarms are arranged.

06 / SUBSYSTEM

Maintenance, cleaning and drainage

Tank sections, bottom discharge, ventilation, cleaning cover, pump suction point and hygiene conditions are planned together.

07 / SUBSYSTEM

Automation testing and acceptance

On-off set points of the filling valve, contact failure, level sequence, power outage and manual control are subjected to functional testing in the field.

Equipment, accounts and documents

Tank and valves, float/sensors, panel, relay, low-high level protection, pipe-valve length, P&ID and acceptance test form.

Technical inspection and delivery

Survey, calculation, application project, device selection, survey-quantity survey, technical specification, field control and related testing-commissioning processes are documented according to the project scope.
